Teen

The word teen can conjure up all kinds of images, ranging from memories of our own teenage years when we had our whole lives ahead of us to less happy sights of hooded youths in the street. Teenagers are often the unfortunate scapegoats for many of society’s ills, but not all teenagers are out to cause trouble, just as not all adults are out to have fun.

In the world of the teen, there are many things going on. It is a tough time when major changes are going on in their lives and when trends are very important. We all remember being a teenager and how important it was that give off a good impression to our peers and the opposite sex, which is why to some the word teen will conjure up images of the latest trends and musical tastes. This can range from fashion styles (ripped jeans and designer shirts for example) to the latest gadgets (such as mp3s, mobile phones and games consoles).

It doesn’t end there. The world of the teen is a vast one that is ever changing and will undoubtedly take on a new form in years to come.

Teenage Obesity

A worrying problem is the growing increase in numbers of over weight teenagers. As a nation Obesity appears to be on the up and kids and teenagers are high on the list. Many experts have blamed poor diet and lack of exercise for causing this. Poor diet has been blamed on poverty (fresh organic food being very expensive when most shops sell cheap frying chips and other cheap frying foods), lack of knowledge, poor education about what is healthy, fast food chains, and advertising of junk food. Lack of exercise has been put down to video games, computers, and parents not allowing their children out to play due to concerns about the childs safety. Teenagers complain there isn't enough to do so they hang around shops or sit at home playing on the computer rather than going and playing a sport or doing anything remotly energetic.

Many parents complain about not being able to by large childrens clothing. Many families find it difficult to buy outsized school uniforms and larger teenagers complain of not being able to buy the most up to date fashion in XL sizes.
